San Fruttuoso is certainly one of the most beautiful and famous points of the Ligurian Riviera.

This small bay in the Golfo Paradiso is the destination of many tourists and swimmers every summer, both for the beauty of the water and for the uniqueness of the context that surrounds it, but also for visiting the Abbey or being able to see the famous Christ of the Abyss.

The magnificent San Fruttuoso Bay

Out of season, San Fruttuoso is instead an unmissable destination for many passionate walkers or, simply, for those who love to take a trip with friends in the weekend.

San Fruttuoso how to get there: There are ONLY 2 WAYS!

The beauty and uniqueness of San Fruttuoso is also in the limited accessibility of the place. In fact, there are only two ways to reach it: ON FOOT or by BOAT.

We will tell you about both options to get to San Fruttuoso di Camogli in detail: at first, we will explain how to get there by boat, then on foot.

One of the things we absolutely recommend – many people do it – is to do it.. both ways.

For example, the outward journey (which is easier, downhill) to San Fruttuoso on foot and the return by boat.

Listen to us: the path is really beautiful, but the return, all uphill, is really tiring, especially in the first section.

Take the ferry to come back “home”!

USEFUL TIPS for those who want to get as close as possible by CAR (or motorbike).

If you want to go to San Fruttuoso on FOOT, you can start from all the neighboring towns in the area. The simplest and most comfortable option, is to go at Portofino Vetta and here park your vehicle.

You will find a large car park where you can leave your car or your motorbike.

You can also park in San Rocco di Camogli, not far from here, and then reach Portofino Vetta on foot, along the path that starts behind the municipal car park, or by following the one that starts next to the church.

If, on the other hand, you want to go to San Fruttuoso directly by boat, we advise you to park your car in Rapallo, Santa Margherita, Recco or Camogli (In summer, Recco is better)

How to get to San Fruttuoso on foot

San Fruttuoso di Camogli can be reached on foot from many places in Tigullio and Golfo Paradiso.

Except for the path that starts from Portofino, all the other starting points have the Pietre Strette place in common. Now we explain to you.

Whether you want to leave on foot from Camogli, Paraggi, Santa Margherita or Rapallo, the first thing to do is to reach the locality of Pietre Strette, on Monte di Portofino.

From Portofino Vetta to San Fruttuoso, passing from Pietre Strette

Once here, you can start the path which descends to San Fruttuoso in about 50 minutes.

As we said initially, the most comfortable and shortest route involves the departure from Portofino Vetta. Here you walk up to Pietre Strette and then descend to San Fruttuoso.

Starting from all the other localities, the farther we start from the Pietre Strette, the longer our journey gets.

Different way instead if you want to star the path from PORTOFINO.

From Portofino To San Fruttuoso, passing from Base 0

In fact, starting from Portofino, the path takes a different route, very scenic with a wonderful view of the coast.

Instead of going up to Pietre Strette, you pass “down” closer to the sea, first reaching the locality of BASE 0 and then arriving at San Fruttuoso.

The length of the path is less than 2 hours and the departure is from Vico del Fondaco.

San Fruttuoso can also be reached on foot from San Rocco di Camogli and Punta Chiappa along the famous Batterie/Passo del Bacio/San Fruttuoso path.

Due the increasing number of rescue operations in recent years – and, unfortunately, a recent fatal accident involving a young hiker – we prefer not to recommend it among the routes to reach San Fruttuoso and we will not delve into this magnificent route.

In fact, this is an EE-classified path, for expert hikers only. Anyone wishing to know more about it, can find all the necessary information online.

Other VERY useful information for your trips to San Fruttuoso di Camogli

  • In San Fruttuoso you have a bar and restaurants, one of which is in the small cove at the east of the main beach.
  • We recommend a visit to the Abbey, where you will also find a replica of the Christ of the Abyss. The entrance fee for the visit is less than 10 euros.
  • If you want to go to the beach in San Fruttuoso, in addition to private umbrellas, there is a free beach. However, remember that in summer San Fruttuoso is very popular with many tourists. The bay is small and space is limited and the beach fills up quickly, from early in the morning. Particularly on weekends, it is practically impossible to open out your towel in the sand.
  • For the return by boat, check the times of the last afternoon trips: don’t miss the last available boat. Usually the last ones are around 17/17:30 (find the panel with the times on the pier).
  • Going down the path from the Pietre Strette towards San Fruttuoso, in the locality of Molini, there is an Agri-refuge where you can eat on weekends (during the week, the bar service is only active). This is the AgriRifugio Molini, for reservations call: (+39) 0185 772291
  • It is possible to reach San Fruttuoso also with Taxi Boats, which are carried out by some Rentals. Searching online you will find some of these. They can be convenient especially if you want to reach the Bay at particular times. However, be aware that the rates are not very “cheap”.
